Re: Eli's Game Devolpment Blog
the way to object orient collision to make it as clean as possible. I'm not sure if its better to make a class to handle collision by itself or have an object do its own collision. It seems like the first option is the best but I haven't a clue on how to go about it.

So close... so close...
Collision is down but for some reason my reference isn't carrying over the variables from my player class. I guess I could try a pointer but that seems unnecessary. Well I learned about pointers and references awhile back so the fact that I screwed something up doesn't surprise me lol.

Re: Eli's Game Devolpment Blog
IMPORTANT POST:
My Map Editor is now up for release! It took a bit of bug fixing but yesterday I strapped down and pulled it together. Now keep in mind this is not the actual game but instead what will be used to create the levels in my game. If you get bored and you feel like making a level (God Knows Why...) and you think it's pretty good just send it to my email at (eliasbickel@yahoo.com) - It might just make its way to the game! For troubleshooting just email to the address above and I will be sure to get back to you. Names for the editor are welcome!
Instructions For Use:
(Keep in mind that it is still a WIP and is not very user friendly so bear with me)
1. Unzip the files.
2. Start Up the .exe file located in the zip file in the download below.
3. Thats pretty much it.
Controls:
Press the "<" and ">" keys to change the selected tile.
Press the "Page UP" and "Page DOWN" keys to change the selected layer (Basically Layer 0 is behind the player Layer 1 is in front of Layer 0 but behind the player Layer 3 is in front of all the previous layers and the player and Layer 4 is the collision layer which is basically the ground for the player.)
Left click to paste your current tile.
Right click to erase tiles (This also changes your current tile to a clear tile.)
Scroll the screen with the arrow keys.
Press "L" to load and "S" to save
Press "Esc." to exit the program (You can't exit the program if in the process of loading or saving a file to prevent problems with computer memory)
Saving And Loading Your Level:
LOADING:
The default size grid is a 50 by 50 array of tiles. This is pretty big so what you should do is create a text file (.txt) and open it. Inside the file
write this exactly (Without quotes) "4 50 15" Save the file in the same folder as the Map editor called anything but remember what you named it.Run The Map editor again and Press the "L" key. Did you see the black window that opened when you ran the program? Click on it. It should be asking What file you wish to load. Type what you named your .txt file but don't forget ".txt" at the end! If you did the steps properly the map should be 15 down and 50 across.
SAVING:
When you finished editing the level you created simply just press the "S" key. Now Go back to the black box. It should ask what you want to save it as.
Save it as anything as long as you have a ".txt" at the end! Now if you open your saved file it should just have a bunch of random numbers depending on what tiles you put down. If you follow these directions correctly you will not get any errors.
Concerning The Art:
Right now I am struggling to get proper a tileset so just bear with the unfinished tiles for now. If you can make pixel art and you want more tiles then just open "tileset.bmp" in ms paint or any other pixel art program and edit some of the tiles. If you want something transparent be sure to use the pink I used because it is a very specific 255 red 255 blue. Be sure to save it AS IS with out editing the name or type of file. If you do This will result in countless errors in the program. If you do happen to change the tileset and you send me a level with edited graphics then send me the "tileset.bmp" that you changed so I can see your level to its fullest. I should probably give credit where credit is due so my little sister made the placeholder graphics that you see now. One last thing. There is also a MAJOR discoloration problem at the moment and I am looking into it. I don't have a solution yet but one will hopefully be on the way.
Picture of Use:
Download:
Eli-Editor v2.1
CHANGE LOG:
Fixed Huge Loading Error
PREVIOUS VERSIONS:
Eli-Editor v2.0
NOTICE: Unfortunately this program is windows only and that will probably never change. Sorry for the inconvenience.
(Press SKIP ADD in the upper right)
(If you can't download just email me at my email adress below)
CREDITS:
Me for the code.
My sister for the art.
One last thing. If you couldn't tell the blue square is the mouse.
The Eli-Editor is copyrighted material and if you try to use it as your own I'll see you in court
Again any problems that you may have can be sent to my email adress at eliasbickel@yahoo.com. Be sure to include any error messages (if there are any)

Thanks! A lot of effort and time went into this so I take comfort in the fact someone will at least look at it.

Yeah I know, that sprite I posted in the Discussion took at least 12 hours, and is a pretty complicated sprite (10-Pokemon fusion + recolor + pixel-over, also designed by me) and I must say that I'm pretty disappointed that no one even bothered to mention it. I guess people here don't really have a taste for arttuxlord123 wrote:\ZoruaTheAether wrote::D I love map editors. I'll try this when I have time/
